3 Options To Glue Statues Or Figurines

Repairing broken furniture is one thing but when it comes to statues and figurines that is a different ball of wax. Most ceramist would have you believe that the only option you have is to pay for an expensive repair. It is believed that any glue will negate the value of a piece but that is only if the job is not done with patience and care. For a truly valuable piece it may well be worth the expense of an expert but for your everyday ceramic or clay statues and figurines here is what you can do. Choose one of these three glues.

* Elmer's Craft Bond Ceramic & Glass Cement * Super Glue * Finger Nail Glue

The Craft glue gives a better seal but you will always be able to see that there was a break. The Elmer's is easiest to wipe off if you create an over flow. The fingernail glue gives a great hold and dries invisibly. The same goes for the Super Glue.

Statuettes and figurines are lovely as accessories in any room but homes with children and pets see more than their fair share of broken ones. Cups, plates, saucers nothing is safe from the carnage. You can be armed and ready to be the one to put it all back together.

You will need: Chosen type of Glue Soft Cloth Fine Grade Sandpaper Tape Cotton Swabs Paint Thinner or Nail Polish Remover

Step 1 Finding all the pieces is the most important part of this project. Go ahead and do a dry fit before you begin the gluing process. This is to make certain you get the pieces to the right place.

Step 2 Sand the jagged edges to get a better fit where necessary. Use the cloths to remove all of the fine dust before attempting to glue the parts together.

Step 3 Coats one piece at a time with glue and insert it into its place. If you are using nail glue or super glue you have a built in dispenser that allows you total control of the application process.

Step 4 Now it is time to let the piece dry. You have to hold the piece securely until the glue begins to set. Use the tape to hold all the pieces in place and set the piece apart to dry. This drying process will take several hours

.Step 5 Clean the figure and sand away any spilled glue spots. Clean away any debris left behind with a cloth. You can now use the nail polish remover or a swab with paint thinner to make sure you have gotten all of the excess glue off.

Figurines can be a part of the family matrix. Some are so familiar and dear to us that parting with them is out of the question. You can always effect a good repair at home and if the object is very valuable take it to a pro for a seamless restoration.
